How do I choose the right AFTCO Lure?

Fish and fishing conditions are constantly changing. Normally when the water is on the warmer side fish will key in on faster moving lures like the Swimmer. When the water is colder move to a slower moving lure like the Hybrid. If the fish are in deeper water you will need to use a faster sinking lure like crossbreed.

What is the difference between the different lures?

All AFTCO lures are designed to be easy to fish.

Hybrid: There are two ways to fish this lure. You can simply cast and crank it in just below the surface or you can sink it out and wind in. Best to be fished around submerged structure or active baitfish.

Crossbreed: These smaller profile heavier lures can be fished two ways. The Crossbreed works great when fishing in open water by casting it out and retrieving it in. It can be fished as a slow pitch lure with its center weighted design. During the sink this lure will fall erratically and will get bit on the sink just as much as getting a bite on the retrieve.

Jerkbait: This is a great lure for simply casting and cranking in. If the fish are being picky, try cranking fast a few times, then pause. Keep repeating that pattern.

Swimmer: This is a sub-surface lure that will swim side to side by simply cranking it in. This lure will mimic a swimming baitfish. The swimmer can be fished in open water better to be fished around submerged structure or vegetation.

Digger: This lure was designed to cast and retrieve, however it’s also a great trolling lure. When casting we find it best to change the speed which you crank until you find the speed the fish are keying in on. The Digger also works great if you sink it out and crank fast on the way up.

What is the max diving depth of the Hybrid?

All current AFTCO lures will sink and can be fished at whatever depth you prefer. The Jerkbait, when cast and simply retrieved will dive up to 4 feet depending on the retrieval speed.

Are these lures designed for Saltwater or Freshwater fishing?

The AFTCO lures were designed and tested in the saltwater however that doesn’t mean they won’t catch freshwater fish. The Swimmer 115 should be deadly for Stripers, Pike, and Bass.

What are the weights and lengths of each Hybrid lure?

Hybrid HB95 is 95mm in length and weighs 1 1/4oz or 40g.
Hybrid HB125 is 125mm in length and weighs 2 7/8oz or 85g.

What species can I catch with the Hybrid?

All AFTCO lures were designed to catch a wide variety of fish. Pelagic fish, Groupers, Snappers, Tarpon, Redfish, Snook, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, and Stripers.

How buoyant are the AFTCO Lures? Do they float, sink, or suspend?

All AFTCO lures will sink. The Swimmer, Hybrid, and Jerkbait lures will sink slowly while the Digger and Crossbreed lures will sink fast.

What is the hook size of the Hybrid lures?

Hybrid HB95 #1 Hook
Hybrid HB125 #2/0 Hook

Can I change the hook?

Yes, you can also swap out with a J hook vs treble hook. Note the swimming action of the lures will slightly change going to a J style hook.

What color lure should I use?

It’s best to match the color of the lure to the color of the baitfish that the fish are feeding on, a technique known as “match the hatch". In dirty water, it's best to use a more bright colored lure so that the fish can see it better.

What is the best lure size?

You will normally catch more fish or get more bites on a smaller lure. The bigger lures you will get less bites but normally the fish will be larger.

Is there a warranty on the Hybrid?

We offer a 12 month warranty from purchase against manufacturing defects. For more information, please visit our warranty page.
